A young child’s feet are very pliable

Basic health tips that parents should remember about children’s feet:

  • Shoes should be flexible and properly fitted
  • Avoid tight covers or shoes that restrict foot growth and development
  • Be aware of unstable walking. In-toeing (pigeon toes) or out-toeing (knock-knees)
  • Any signs of possible flat feet deformity
  • Recurring foot pain is not normal and should not be ignored
  • Swelling without explanation maybe a sign of a serious condition and should be evaluated
  • Foot deformities such as club foot require early intervention

Pay close attention if your child complains of foot, ankle or help pain especially if your child does not want to run or be active, it could be the result of pain.

And remember! “Strong healthy feet in children can help avoid many types of problems in the lower extremities later in life. For this reason, it is vital to have your child’s feet/walking screened and analyzed.”
